Home Telescopes Altair Astro Telescopes Altair 150EDF 150 F8 ED Refractor
The Altair 150EDF is our largest ED doublet refractor and offers much more than competing ED doublets in its class, genuine FPL53 optics, an optical test report and a superior build CNC optical tube with a sliding dew shield and a quality dual speed rack and pinion focuser, all for much less than you think. This is the affordable "dream scope" for many amateur astronomers, and with 6" of aperture it will give simply amazing images through the eyepiece or camera. Whether you are interested in solar imaging, lunar or planetary imaging and observation, or astrophotography with a big aperture for real detail on nebulae and galaxies, this telescope will do it all and then some at a price which is unheard of, for this specification.Optical AdvantageThe focal ratio of F8 and the FPL53 ED Glass element allows excellent colour correction for high resolution imaging, and visual use. This scope can be considered as "APO" and has carefully controlled spacing between objective elements for excellent performance. Colour aberration is almost non-existent (not visible at all in focus) and the doublet lens acclimatises quicker to ambient temperatures, reaching optimum performance fast. Each Altair 150EDF refractor comes with an interferometry test report in green light. The test report is logged against the lens serial number, and as usual, always the pick of the best optics when assembling any lens.Build QualityNot only are the optics top quality - so is the CNC machined optical tube, dual speed rotating Rack and Pinion focuser, tube rings and sliding dew-shield with super-durable powder coated finish. Ideal for EQ6 class mounts and above, weight is 8kg and length is about 1.2m assembled, allowing another 40cm for the dewshield extended. A CNC 44mm standard dovetail is supplied top and bottom of the CNC hinged rings. All these features are usually reserved for much higher priced instruments. Delivery TimeThe optics testing and final assembly and shipment preparation takes approx. 2 days from order payment. We have published an article explaining the merits of ED refractors, read about The ED Refractor Telescope.
