The SkyWatcher Evostar 150ED Apochromat refractor completes the impressive range of Evostar ED doublets boasting a 150mm of clear aperture. With the f8 focal ratio the 1200mm of focal length allows for superb all round performance for serious visual observing and imaging of the Solar system and faint deep sky targets. Supplied in a sturdy case it can be transported safely and easily in virtually any car to dark sky sites, included with the instrument. Many astronomers aspire to owning a 6" Apo refractor, these have long been unaffordable for many, until now!We have published an article explaining the merits of this design, read about ED Doublet refractors.Optical tube assemblyTransport caseTube rings45mm dovetail barEvostar 150ED review by Daniel MounseyAre these checked by us or a third party? No! kyWatcher Evostar 150ED DS-PRO Refractor I have just received my SkyWatcher Evostar 150ED DS-PRO Refractor, first reaction epic!!!!! The first thing you see is this beautiful case, `it`s a beast’ boasting the Skywatcher signature logo. Clearly OVL (Optical Vision Limited) have in no way held back on safe guarding this product, very, very impressed. This case will be invaluable for this scope long term, the value of it`s purpose I will briefly touch on shortly. I opened the case and there “my optical marvel sat in state”, this long well packaged 6” F/8. Overall appearance of tube is absolutely beautiful, the optical tube boasting a glossy black sparkled finish with the Sky watcher signature logo on both sides of the tube. I love the white trimmings to the due shield, mounting ring and Crayford focuser. I was really please to experience zero backlash to the focuser, really, really smooth…owe and further boasting a feather touch system. I was further please to see the instrument was provided with a metal due cap rather than a plastic one…felt pads inside rim of cap to prevent catching to the due shield. I was in no way surprised that the optical tube was not accompanied with a viewfinder…. I have experienced this with many other high end refactors I have brought in the past. In light of this instrument I would strongly recommend the Skywatcher`s right-angle viewfinder and mount…. really good quality, and worth every penny. Overall, I’m really impressed with both the cosmetic finish and mechanical quality of the optical all metal-tube and ring, “its` built like a tank” but strangely very light. However, “I would strongly recommend using a Lozmandy dovetail plate for this size instrument”. Finally, this telescope will be regularly used in the field (hence the case becomes a brilliant asset) for public use by the Rawcliffe astronomical society…primarily for planetary viewing. I will very soon report back via a short review, giving my amidite experience of the optical performance of this beautiful classic apo refactor. (31/10/2019) James Howes - Rawcliffe, East Yorkshire
