Home Filters Light Pollution Filters OVL 2 Inch Light Pollution Filter
This 2" contrast-enhancing anodized aluminium, optical glass filter is designed to block out the wavelengths of light emitted by mercury-vapour light and other common causes of light pollution, whilst providing higher transmission at critical hydrogen-alpha and hydrogen-beta lines than competing filters. Bright, light-polluted skies appear much darker, and the contrast between object and sky is improved significantly. This contrast-enhancement effect is particularly apparent on nebulae. Unlike stars, emission nebulae give off light in a very narrow range of wavelengths. Choose this version for 2" eyepieces and accessories. These filters allow maximum transmission of the important wavelengths of H-alpha, H-beta and doubly ionized oxygen - the ones most commonly emitted by nebulae. Perfect for small and large TelescopesViews of galaxies and star clusters are also enhanced, but to a lesser degree. Also improves contrast on reddish planetary detail. Works well in telescopes of all apertures but is highly recommended for use on smaller telescopes where narrower band filters are less suitable and swallow up too much light. Supplied with storage case and simply screws into any 2" eyepiece or accessory with a standard filter thread.
Good filter Great filter for the money, I could see the difference on my images straight away thanks (20/09/2022) Jean - Liverpool
LPF Received item quickly, item and postage cost good not had chance to test yet so can't comment on performance, there is no mirror like coating on the surfaces like other manufacturers so will be interesting to see the outcome, so the star rating is for price and service (04/07/2020) Neil - Leicester
Great budget filter A decent filter at a very decent price. Goes to show you don't have to spend rip off money from the top brands (you know who you are) so far this filter performs as well as my 1.25 filter that cost 3 time more. Well done OVL. (26/01/2020) Paul Schofield - Kent
Very impressed For what seems to be a budget filter compared to others on the market, it has produced very impressive results for both viewing and photography. (19/12/2018) Ewan -
Excellent filter with an excellent price to match! I've used this filter for a couple of sessions now, mainly using my ethos 13mm and Explore Scientific 20mm 100d. I have to be honest whichever ep I'm using this filter stays in, there's a noticeably darker background stars are better defined and that glow is completely gone. Great service as well. Helping to observe in light pollutiion Without the filter the light pollution stopped observation of m42. With the filter i could see good details (17/03/2017) Neil Clark - Durham
